Super over tied. Australia win on number of sixes! Whoa!
After I wrote about the 3rd and the 4th games of the Women World T20, I found that the second one between Australia and England was like none.
Australia Women were always troubled since the toss time. Only batter in Sarah Taylor acted like a savior scoring 46. There were two more batswomen scoring in the range of 10-20 and rest all had single figures. Australia ended with 104/10 and batted just 17.3 overs.
Chasing 105 would’ve never seemed difficult but English batters had different ideas.
The run-rate was never difficult to achieve but with Australians picking wickets in regular intervals, things changed drastically.
England batted 19.4 overs before being bowled out for 104 and the last wicket was indeed a run-out. They must have been looking for a win but instead were beaten in temptation.
Super over was coming up next. Australia batted first and this is what happened 1|1|1|W|2|1W - Australia managed 6 runs with all their 2 wickets going down. Nevertheless they played all of the allotted six deliveries!
Chasing 7 was like two shots but English again had different ideas! Ha Ha!
England super over innings turned out like – 0|2|1|1W|1|1W - England was like jealous of Australia and wanted same as them! They also managed 6/2.
With the rules stating that the team having more sixes win the game if the super over is tied, Australia had one six and England had none and thence, Australia took the two points!
I don’t know what if even the number of sixes are equal but the game would’ve been a dramatic one and whomsoever would’ve witnessed should be the luckiest in the world.
This was the third instance of a super over in International T20 and the first even instance of a tied super over!
Women are indeed surprise-packages and on their day can play better poised cricket then men can!
Btw, I did a review of the first seven IPL games of the Royal Challengers Bangalore for their official site! You can take a glance at it here!
